A bright, beautiful birthday card using Stampin' Up! products.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock pieces to the following sizes using a Stampin' Trimmer:
- card from Daffodil Delight Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Real Red Cardstock
- 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" from Whisper White Thick Cardstock
Mount the hummingbird image from the Humming Along Set on Block E. Ink it up with the StazOn Ink Pad. Stamp it on the left side of the thick white rectangle. The top and bottom feathers should be about 3/8" from the top and bottom edges and the left side feathers should be about 5/8" from the left edge.
Tip: Be very, very careful when removing the stamp from the case and from the block. This is one of the new Cling Stamps and they stick really well! If you aren't careful, you can tear the foam on the stamp.
Mount the sentiment of choice from the Humming Along Set on Block C. Ink it up with the StazOn Ink Pad. Stamp it on the right side of the thick white rectangle. The bottom of the sentiment should be about 5/8" from the bottom edge and the right side of the sentiment should be about 3/4" from the right edge.
Tip: Be very, very careful when removing the stamp from the case and from the block. This is one of the new Cling Stamps and they stick really well! If you aren't careful, you can tear the foam on the stamp.
Put 5 to 7 drops of Daffodil Delight Ink Refill into an empty Stampin' Spritzer. Fill the rest of the spritzer up with 1/3 water and 2/3 rubbing alcohol. Give it a good shake to mix the color into the water/alcohol mix.
Fold a couple of paper towels into a thick pad and place them on top of Grid Paper on your work surface. Place the stamped white rectangle on top of the paper towel pad.
Sprinkle a liberal amount of Brilliant Red Brusho onto the head, wings, and tail feathers of the hummingbird stamped on the rectangle of thick cardstock. Sprinkle some Gamboge (orange) Brusho on the body of the hummingbird image.
Use the yellow water/alcohol in the Stampin' Spritzer to spray on the cardstock to help the Brusho run and blend. Spray some yellow water/alcohol over the right side of the cardstock too just to add some color.
Tip: Hold your cardstock away from your work area when spritzing on the colored water/alcohol so you don't risk getting ink all over your work surface or on items you don't want to get inky.
Use a clean paper towel to blot off some excess water. Set the rectangle aside to let it dry.
Tip: You can speed up drying if you want using the Heat Tool.
Once the rectangle is dry, place it on some Grid Paper to protect your work surface.
If you haven't already done so, put some water into an Aqua Painter.
Shake the bottle of Vegas Gold Shimmer Paint while the lid is on tight. Remove the lid and place it on some Grid Paper on your work surface open end up. Squeeze the Aqua Painter gently to get the brush damp. Pick up some Shimmer Paint from the lid. Paint in the hummingbird's throat.
Squeeze the Aqua Painter gently to get the brush damp. Pick up some Shimmer Paint from the lid. Hold the brush of the Aqua Painter over the stamped and colored, dry rectangle. Flick the end of the Aqua Painter to make drops of glittery fluid splatter onto the cardstock. Repeat until you have the coverage you want. Get more glittery fluid on the brush as needed. Vary the height at which you hold the brush over the cardstock to get different sized splatters. Move the brush around as well.
Allow the glitter splatters and painted throat to dry thoroughly before proceeding to the next step.
Adhere the stamped, colored, and splattered dry rectangle to the Real Red rectangle using strips of Tear & Tape Adhesive all along the edges.
Tip: Using Tear & Tape on the edges will help keep the cardstock from curling and bowing along the edges since it got wet.
Cut a 3-1/2" piece of Real Red 3/8" Mixed Satin Ribbon.
Lay the ribbon across the matted rectangle in the upper right corner. Flip the layers over and fold the ends of the ribbon over. Adhere the ends of the ribbon in place with pieces of Tear & Tape Adhesive.
Remove the protective backing from the Tear & Tape strips and add SNAIL to the back of the Real Red rectangle. Adhere it to the front of the Daffodil Delight card.
Cut a 3" piece of the Real Red 3/8" Mixed Satin Ribbon.
Slide one end of the ribbon under the ribbon on the card front and tie it in place using a half knot. Trim the ends.
