B right and cheery birthday card using Stampin' Up! products and masking.
Project Recipe
Cut cardstock and Masking Paper pieces to the following sizes using a Paper Trimmer:
- card from Calypso Coral Cardstock at 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" and scored at 4-1/4"
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Daffodil Delight Cardstock
- 4" x 5-1/4" from Basic White Cardstock
- 2" x 5-1/4" from Masking Paper
- 1" x 5-1/4" from Masking Paper
- 1" square from Daffodil Delight Cardstock
Lay the white rectangle on some Grid Paper vertically so it is lined up on some of the 1/4" lines.
Place the 1" x 5-1/4" strip of Masking Paper vertically on the left side of the white rectangle so it overhangs the top, bottom, and left edges a bit and is straight.
Place the 2" x 5-1/4" strip of Masking Paper vertically on the right side of the white rectangle so it overhangs the top, bottom, and right edges a bit and is straight. You should now have about 1-1/2" of white cardstock exposed vertically down the white rectangle.
Mount the Rays Of Light stamp on Block F. Leave the stamp rubber side up on your work surface and press the open Daffodil Delight Ink Pad all over it. If you get some ink in the open circle, don't worry too much. You'll be covering it later. Or, you can use a tissue or wet wipe to carefully remove excess ink from the circle.
Carefully place the top of the inky stamp near the top of the masked white rectangle so the open "sun" circle will be inside the exposed white strip between the two pieces of masking paper. Lay the stamp down onto the masked white rectangle and press firmly all across the back of the block.
Remove the Rays Of Light Stamp from the white rectangle. Leave the masking paper in place.
Rub a Blending Brush across the open Calypso Coral Ink Pad to get it inky. Rub some of the ink off onto Grid Paper. Rub the inky Blending Brush over the top and bottom of the exposed sun rays stamped strip on the masked white rectangle. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed.
Tip: I just clean my Blending Brushes when I'm done using them by running them under water until no more color is coming off. Then, I let them air dry. They may be stained, but they are clean enough to use with any color of ink in the future.
Rub a different Blending Brush across the open Daffodil Delight Ink Pad to get it inky. Rub some of the ink off onto Grid Paper. Rub the inky Blending Brush over the center of the exposed sun rays stamped strip on the masked white rectangle. Get more ink on the Blending Brush as needed. Blend the yellow into the pink.

Carefully remove the strips of Masking Paper from both sides.
Tip: If you have trouble removing the Masking Paper, try heating it gently with the Heat Tool to soften the adhesive.
Place the stamped and blended white rectangle on your Paper Trimmer and trim off 1/4" as needed from the top and/or bottom edges. This will make the rectangle smaller for matting and will help get rid of any unstamped areas near the top and bottom. Also trim 1/4" from the left and/or right edges for matting purposes.
As you are ready to stamp using the Amazing Phrasing Set, place the cardstock on the Stampin' Pierce Mat. Using the mat will help you get a cleaner image each time you stamp.
Mount the "around the sun" sentiment from the Amazing Phrasing Set on Block H. Ink it up with the Calypso Coral Ink Pad. Stamp it at a slight angle in the bottom right corner of the vertical stamped and blended white rectangle as shown.
Mount the "to another year" sentiment from the Amazing Phrasing Set on Block H. Ink it up with the Calypso Coral Ink Pad. Stamp it at a slight angle in the bottom right corner of the vertical stamped and blended white rectangle just above the previously stamped sentiment as shown.
Mount the "Woo Hoo!" sentiment from the Amazing Phrasing Set on Block H. Ink it up with the Calypso Coral Ink Pad. Stamp it at a slight angle on the vertical stamped and blended white rectangle just above the previously stamped sentiment as shown.
Adhere the stamped and blended white rectangle to the center of the Daffodil Delight rectangle and then to the front of the Calypso Coral card.
Pick out the circle die that cuts out a 7/8" circle from the Stylish Shapes Dies. Put it on top of the Daffodil Delight square on a platform on your Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Run through the machine.
Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the circle cut out to the center of the circle in the Rays Of Light image.
Use the mini spatula on the Take Your Pick to carefully peel up 1 large and 1 small Calypso Coral and 1 small Pale Papaya gems from a sheet of Fine Sparkle Adhesive-Backed Gems making sure that you get the adhesive backings as well. Adhere them to the front of the card as shown.
